Latvian Ornithological Society Global alliance of conservation organisations working together for the world's birds and people

The second Latvian Breeding Bird Atlas is going to be compiled during years 2000–2004. The aim of the project is to collect data on the distribution of all Latvian breeding bird species and to update changes in their status since 1984 (the first Latvian Breeding Bird Atlas project). All the territory of Latvia has been divided in 5x5 km squares (altogether 2785 squares) and in each of them all the breeding bird species should be recorded. In addition, information on bird population and occurrence in different habitats is collected. The result of the project is the maps of bird distribution.
